The City of Walnut Creek is taking seriously the hazardous invisible, odorless air pollution produced by gas-powered vehicles when idling. The health risks are worst for children and for adults with pre-existing heart, lung, or mental conditions. The most hazardous place to be is in a car behind a car that is idling; toxins in your car are increased ten-fold. Idling more than 10 seconds costs money, and increases ground level ozone, greenhouse gases, and other pollutants.

Many millennials do not feel financially stable enough to start families as statistics show that the U.S. median income for people aged 25 to 34 is the same as it was in 1977, according to 2016 data.

In 1974, Walnut Creek voters approved a $6.7 million bond measure that allowed the city to purchase 1800 acres of undeveloped hillsides, ridge lines, and park sites. Walnut Creek owns parts of Lime Ridge open Space, Shell Ridge open space, Acalanes Ridge open Space and Sugarloaf open space. Check out this video for more info:

To afford the median priced home in Walnut Creek on a minimum wage salary, one would have to work 148 hrs/week, compared to 92 hrs/week in California and 126 hrs/week in Contra Costa County. Housing demand continues to significantly outpace supply and many residents spend over 50% of their income on the cost of housing.
